Theodosia Daflos, MA

I have a Masters of Clinical Psychology from the University of Nevada, Reno, where I received specialized training from the creators of  Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) and Dialectical Behavioural Therapy for couples (DBT Couples), as well as training in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) for depression and anxiety, and DBT for individuals who engage in self-harm.

I also completed a clinical psychology internship at Duke University Medical Center, where I completed rotations in the Pain Clinic, Inpatient Unit, and Outpatient Behavioural Medicine Clinic. I have over 10 years experience seeing clients with mild, moderate, and severe depression, anxiety, OCD, self-harm, chronic pain and health issues, and high-conflict relationships. I provide individual and couples therapy, as well as family skills sessions where I meet with family members of my clients to teach them skills and tools to support their loved one.

I know that talking about the most challenging parts of our lives can be difficult. That's why the most important part of my practice is providing a safe, non-judgmental environment for my clients to discuss any difficulties or issues they're having at their own pace.

My Approach

I know that talking about the most challenging parts of our lives can be difficult. That's why the most important part of my practice is providing a safe, non-judgmental environment for my clients to discuss any difficulties or issues they're having at their own pace. I will gently encourage you at times to step outside of your comfort zone or address issues you may be avoiding. However, you are always in charge of your own therapy, and I want us to work together to build a supportive therapeutic relationship.

I practice Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavioural Therapy (DBT), and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), and Exposure Therapy for anxiety, depression, OCD, trauma, and relationship conflict. During our initial session, we will discuss the specific difficulties you are experiencing and  your treatment goals. Then we will discuss your treatment options. If I believe that your best treatment options are therapies or treatments that I do not provide, I will make appropriate referrals.

My therapy approaches are meant to be time-limited, typically anywhere from 8-24 sessions depending on the severity of your struggles.  If you require treatment longer than 24 sessions, we will review your treatment targets and see if any changes need to be made to our treatment plan. Some clients may benefit from "booster sessions" once therapy is completed, where we may have check-in sessions every few months, or several sessions every few years to address new issues or review skills that have been helpful.

Throughout the duration of our time together, you will learn skills to be able to "be your own therapist" - identifying patterns that may trigger or exacerbate your difficulties, and using skills to help you manage your emotions and act based on what is important in your life. In this way from the first session we will work towards you no longer needing therapy.
